Hillside Barn
I took a drive-by shot of this barn up on a hillside as we were heading south on I-5 from Mt. Vernon towards Seattle on October 15th.
The barn looks in pretty good condition, but the lean-to looks like it could use a little help.

A Stitch in Time?
The time we spent in the Skagit Valley last weekend was in mostly overcast and rainy weather. Not good for us, but good for the area as they hadn’t had measurable rain in almost three months, a very long dry spell for the Pacific Northwest. This is a drive-by shot of an old barn near Mt. Vernon. It looks like they made some roof and siding repairs at one time, and I can spot some John Deere green inside the barn, so it looks like it’s in use. The question is if the repairs are enough to maintain the integrity of the barn and keep it going for a while.

Sun in the Backyard
The sun shining in the backyard today caught my attention several times. It sparkled off the snow and cast long shadows mid-afternoon.
As evening approached it created a colorful backdrop for the trees.
The days may be growing shorter but they are full of beauty.

Back Home to Winter
It was snowing and about 25 degrees when we arrived home yesterday afternoon. I don't think this will melt, and we'll have snow on the ground until April.
Before we left home on October 1st I had cleaned out most of my flower boxes, but I left the whiskey barrels that were still blooming in the front yard. Covered in snow they still look appealing. Now I'll have to decide whether to rip the plants out or leave them until spring. Maybe I'll add a goblin or two....
As always we were welcomed home by our sweet little Chickadees. I filled the feeders and they were happily flitting back and forth between the feeders and the trees.
We spent a couple of wonderful weeks in the warmer weather of the Pacific Northwest visiting friends and family and extending fall just a bit. It's always good to get home though.

Gone South
Monday we followed our summer birds south to capture a little more warm weather before winter. We are in the Pacific Northwest visiting family and enjoying the sunshine. We've been to McMinnville, Oregon, and Woodland, Washington, and today we are on Vashon Island in Puget Sound. We've got a few more stops to make and I probably won't be able to post very much, but I'm taking lots of photos. I'll post more of them when we get home and catch up with what everyone else has been doing.
