Another Vermont Barn

This is another Vermont barn we saw last October on our road trip, just a short ways up the road from the one I posted last week.  I love driving those back roads!

Vermont Barn

For a change of pace, today I'm going back to the road trip we took in October of 2011.  We saw this barn near Bennington, Vermont.

Vermont in the Fall

I'm adding a little color to a snowy winter by going back to our roadtrip in October 2011.  The photos below were taken on October 11th in West Bennington, Vermont.  The River is the Walloomsac River.

The Henry Covered Bridge crosses the river and is 127 feet long and built with a town lattice truss.  It was built around 1840 and rebuilt in 1989.  Unfortunately the contractor replaced all the old Vermont spruce and oak wood with southern pine and ash.  Nonetheless, it's still a beautiful bridge.

Of course, with such a picturesque scene I had to play just a little.

Vermont to Maine

We've seen some interesting things over the last couple of days and I took a lot of photos, but tonight is just a brief overview of what we've seen.  I'll come back later and post more details.  While we were in Bennington, Vermont, we found several interesting things to do.  We went to the Bennington Museum, which has some excellent exhibits.
And, big surprise, we went to the Hemmings Motor News Museum.

The Bennington Battle Monument is the tallest building in Vermont at 306 feet tall.  We rode the elevator up to the 200 foot level and had a spectacular view.

We stopped at the Covered Bridge Museum.....
....and also at several covered bridges.
We left Bennington and drove to New Hampshire and stopped at Hogback Mountain for a panoramic view.
Along the way through Vermont and New Hampshire we passed through many small towns, all with some beautiful old buildings.
The day was overcast, but the colorful leaves more than made up for that.
We spent the night at Nashua, New Hampshire, where fellow bloggers Beatrice and Grenville from The Frog and Penguin are vacationing.  It was a treat to meet them and have dinner with them.  We've had lovely weather so far, but this morning was rainy.  We stopped at the Budweiser Brewing Co. for a tour, and visited their famous Clydesdales.  Check out Beatrice's post about the tour and Clydesdales.
It continued to rain all day, but we spent the afternoon traveling up into Maine.  Tonight we are staying near Portland, Maine, and are planning on driving along the coast tomorrow.  The predictions are for thundershowers tomorrow but clearing up on Saturday.  I hope the forecast is accurate--well, maybe not the thundershowers part!

The Moose Look a Bit Different in Vermont

Moose are a common sight back home in Alaska, but the ones we saw in Bennington, Vermont, just don't look quite the same!
