Dunkle's Gulf Station

Along the old Lincoln Highway in Bedford Pennsylvania is Dunkle's Gulf Station. We were going through Bedford on our way back to Pittsburgh to catch our flight north the next day. It was Bedford's Fall Foliage Festival Days and the streets were packed. We really didn't have enough time to stop and enjoy the Festival, and there certainly wasn't any parking, so I contented myself taking a few photos across Marty out the window of the car.Dunkle's is an art deco gem built of polychrome tile. It was built in 1933.
There are still some gas pumps, but there is a closed sign hanging on the door. Information on the Internet says it is still open and operating as a gas station, and there is a Coke machine in the parking lot, so I don't know if it was just closed for the Fall Festival or if it is no longer in business.
There is a big difference in a service station like this, where you actually had someone who came out and pumped your gas and checked your oil, and the sterile do-it-yourself gas stations we have today. Kinda makes you wonder about the term "progress."
