Fences at Creamer's

Here's some more views of the split rail fences at Creamer's Field.

And a few more shots of one of my favorite visitors, the Greater White-fronted Goose.

More From Creamer's Field

We've taken several walks around Creamer's Field during the last several days.  The fields are full of Sandhill Cranes and Canada Geese and various other waterfowl.

There's lots to see, including the barns, Sandhill Cranes and Canada Geese, and some fences for Theresa's Good Fences.

And more fences.  There are a lot of fences around Creamer's Field.

I always like spotting one of my favorites birds, White-fronted Geese.

The seasonal pond, which should be empty this time of year, is providing a bit of extra beauty.  The picture below was taken on the 26th.

Fall is rapidly catching up with us.  The picture below was taken at the same spot, only on the 22nd.

We keep getting rain showers, which tends to limits good photo opportunities.  The seasonal pond on the 26th shows a shower starting that sent us back to the car, but we'll come another day when there's a bit of sunshine.

Evening Visit to Creamer's Field

Tuesday evening my granddaughter Sydney and I went to Creamer's Field to see the geese.  Sydney was excited to see all the birds.

She said hello to the Canada Geese.

She enjoyed seeing all the activity in the field.

But she is four, after all, and she had her puddle boots on, and her new rain paints, and the puddles and squishy snow were the best part of our visit!

I love the feather patterns when the cranes spread their wings, and I added a filter to accentuate the patterns.

I have been trying to get a photo showing the three different kinds of geese at the field:  Snow Geese, Canada Geese, and White-fronted Geese.  The one below does that nicely, although it was slightly out of focus.  Again, adding a filter helped to highlight the feather patterns.

More later.....

Finally!!

There's still snow on the ground, but in the last few days it's went down considerably.  If you look at the barns at Creamer's Field it doesn't look a whole lot different....

.....but it's another story in the front field!

It's been transformed into many ponds, and the birds have arrived in large numbers.

I was able to identify Trumpeter Swans, Sandhill Cranes, Canada Geese, White-fronted Geese, Snow Geese, Northern Pintails, Mallards, and Gulls.

It will take me a while to go through the many hundreds of photos I took, not to mention the many more I'll take in the next few days.  I'll be posting lots more photos of the birds, but here are a few close-ups of a Sandhill Crane, Snow Geese and Canada Geese, and a White-fronted Goose.

Check back to see more over the next week or so.

In the meantime, check out more old barns at Tricia's Barn Charm.

A Few Brave Geese.....

We had another few inches of snow yesterday, but today was sunny again and most of that is melted.  We're a little cooler, in the high 30s, and at Creamer's Field a few puddles have developed and some of the grain is uncovered.  Geese are beginning to arrive, mostly Canada Geese, but I saw at least five White-fronted Geese today.

Here are the five, and it's nap time.

I'm not sure that the geese are terribly happy with all the snow.....

I really do like the White-fronted Geese!

White-fronted Goose

When you visit Creamer's Field the most noticeable birds are the Sandhill Cranes and the Canada Geese.  If you look a little closer, though, you'll see some other birds.  One of my favorites is the Greater White-fronted Goose.

You can check out some of my older posts that include the White-fronted Geese by clicking HERE.

An Evening at Creamer's Field

Yesterday evening was beautiful at Creamer's Field, even though there were threatening clouds over the hills.

More birds have arrived.  We saw Trumpeter Swans, Sandhill Cranes, Canada Geese, White-fronted Geese, Mallards, American Wigeons, and Northern Pintails.  The ponds close to the fences that were formed by the snow melt are drying out, but there are several ponds further away in the field.  Mostly the birds hang out at those, and even with my zoom lens they aren't as close as I would like.  Consequently I've had to do a bit of cropping.  Even at a distance the sight of a pair of Sandhill Cranes dancing is always exciting.

There was lots of eating, walking around, swimming, and dancing going on.  Oh, and a good deal of gossiping.

The Goose below appears to be amused by the Swan's bottoms-up.

One of the Swans displays its wings as a Northern Pintail walks by.  All the other birds are dwarfed by the Swans and Cranes.

There always seems to be a Canada Goose or two in flight.

I've got to say though that my favorites are the White-fronted Geese.  I love their bright orange legs and beaks.

You can see the relative sizes of the Trumpeter Swan, White-fronted Goose, and American Wigeon in the photo below.

The evening at the field was capped off by a rainbow.

We went to dinner and then on the way home we saw another rainbow, first one end, and then as we came over a hill we saw that it was a full rainbow stretching across the sky.  I'm thinking seeing two rainbows in an evening is lucky, especially when you see the full rainbow.
