Acres of Cars, 2nd Day

We were back at Hershey today and we looked at a lot more cars.

There were several that Marty looked closely at.

Especially the '55 Mercury in the photo above, but there were a few problems underneath, and in the end we left without owning another car.  I'm not sure we covered everything in our two days, and the meet goes on for two more days, but we both felt we had seen enough.

These two photos show only a very small bit of the cars and vendors, and we walked quite a few miles around the fields.  Tonight we are very tired!

Acres of Cars

We spent the day at Hershey, PA, at the Antique Automobile Club of America's Fall Meet.  There is a swap meet with every kind of part imaginable for your old car, a car corral with hundreds of vehicles for sale, and a car show.  The flea market seems to go on forever, and the car corral fills the perimeter road around Hershey World and Giant Center, which is maybe a mile long.  A few of the cars for sale are shown below.

Of course, along with all those cars are thousands of people selling parts and memorabilia and shopping for parts for their project cars and looking for that special car to buy.

One of the more fun vehicles we saw was this Cushman motorcycle, complete with a comfy seat for the passenger.

We were there most of the day and maybe covered half of the flea market and car corral.  Hopefully tomorrow we will see most of the rest.  Best of all the sun was shining and it was a beautiful day.  Marty has been looking very hard at those cars for sale.  Will he be able to resist?  Stay tuned......

Cruisin'

Sunday the sun was shining and we had an errand to run at Lowes, so we decided to take advantage of the sunny day and take the T-Bird on the last cruise for the year.  Click on the collages for a better view.

After we got what we needed at Lowes, we were after some frozen custard, but unfortunately the stand was closed.  So we drove down Farmer's Loop road, and stopped and took a few photos of the old barn that sits along the side of the road.  I've posted about it before HERE.

Then we drove up in the hills near where we used to live for a view down over the valley and the town.

We headed for home, stopping at the Muskox Farm on the way.  It's not easy to get photos of the muskox because of the series of fences surrounding the muskox, but an animal this size does require sturdy fencing to keep it in.  The white shadow lines running through the photos are the wires of the fencing.  Click HERE to read previous posts.

Our next stop was at the UA Experimental Farm to see the reindeer.  Click HERE and HERE and HERE for previous posts.

Down the hill from the farm are fields belonging to the University.  There have been a lot of Sandhill Cranes feeding in the field over the last few weeks, but they have gone south now.  There were also some Canada Geese in the fields.  The collage below also has some Gray Jays that we saw up at the Muskox Farm.

Then we were back home, and the T-Bird will soon be put in the back of Marty's shop with a cover over it until next spring. It's definitely not a cool weather car!

Carlisle Swap Meet

Yesterday afternoon we arrived in Carlisle and spent several hours at the Fall Carlisle Collector Car Swap Meet & Corral. The event is held at the Carlisle Fairgrounds and covers 102 acres and has 8100 vendor spaces. There are cars for sale in the car corral and lots of car parts and automotive related items for sale.
Yesterday was overcast but quite pleasant. Today, however, the remnants of Tropical Storm Nicole blew across the Eastern portion of the United States and dumped a lot of rain at Carlisle.
We had purchased an umbrella and rain poncho at Gettysburg but we didn't have to use them there. Today they were given a good workout. We only got one poncho and we should have gotten two. Marty wore the poncho and I had the umbrella. We didn't stay completely dry, but still managed okay.
After exploring the vendor booths that were inside and a few things outside, I went up in the grandstand where it was dry and read my book while Marty went searching for parts. He's found a couple of things on his list and will look for more tomorrow.
We spent the afternoon at the Fall Carlisle Auction, which was held indoors.
Some of the cars up for auction were on display indoors.
Many more were outdoors and during a spell of lighter rain we went out to see what there was.
There was a '54 glass top Ford that Marty took a good look at. His '56 Crown Victoria has a glass top, and that is one of the vehicles he is looking for parts for.
Since he has a '55 Ford Thunderbird we always look at the Thunderbirds. This one is a '56.
We watched this particular car go across the auction block and it sold for $31,000. This one is an unusual color and was in show condition. Marty's is a daily driver and isn't in as good of shape, but he gets a good deal of enjoyment in driving it around town.
I'll wait until I get home to post a video of the action at the auction since the upload would take a bit too long here at the hotel. The Carlisle Swap Meet website has a video that will show you a little of what the Meet is like and you can click here to go there. We're planning on spending the day tomorrow at the Swap Meet and the Auction, and then Saturday will head back towards Pittsburgh where we will catch a flight to begin our journey home on Sunday.
