Yesterday's Sunrise and Sunset and Last Chance for Calendar Giveaway

Yesterday we went for a long lunch with friends.  As we were leaving home I snapped this shot of the sunrise at 11:35, 41 minutes after the official sunrise.

On the way home, I snapped this shot of the sunset at 2:12, 41 minutes before the official sunset.

You're probably thinking that there isn't much difference from the midday shots in my last post.  There really isn't as the sun doesn't climb very high in the sky at this time of year.  Well, there was no ice fog yesterday as the temperature was up to about -8F.

I'll be drawing for my calendar giveaway at Midnight tonight Alaska time, so if you haven't thrown your name in the hat yet you still have time.  Photos of the calendar are HERE, and you can comment on either this post or that one to have your name in the drawing.  Good luck!

Sunrise at the Chena River

Yesterday morning when I was on my way to the grocery store I stopped by the river for a few shots of the sunrise.  It was a little before 11:30.

Walking back toward my car the sight of the sun reflecting off the trees on the hill across the road made a beautiful backdrop through the branches of this birch tree.

Although there were picnic tables with a view of the river I decided not to linger for lunch, although the temperature was in the low 20s.  Maybe come summertime.....

Morning Sun

I took a few shots this morning shortly after sunrise as we were driving down the road.  Sunrise is at 10:00 a.m. and the photo was taken at 10:45.  We have very low sun angles this time of year, and I got a bit a lot of sun flare as I took the shot through the windshield.

I did a little playing and got some interesting effects.

Set the World on Fire

We're fast approaching the shortest day of the year and today we had five hours between sunrise and sunset.  The following photos were taken at about 10:15 as the sun climbed above the horizon.

The passenger side window was frosted up and I wanted to see what the effect would be taken through the frost.  The photo below is what I got.

And the only editing on any of these photos was a crop to get the image below--fire and ice.
