In early October we saw this old barn in Lancaster County in Pennsylvania and I managed to get several shots as we drove by it. It's not your typical Lancaster barn.
It's sitting next to a large field and it's hard to tell whether it goes with the house on the far right in the photo above, or if it goes with the newer barn on the far left in the photo below, or perhaps the house is gone entirely.
Those open doors beckon me inside to discover what treasures are stored inside.
As we drove past I had to content myself with one last view of the end of the barn.
When I processed the photos I was able to see a little bit inside. It looks like there is an old tractor, some hanging tobacco leaves, and through to the other side some missing boards near the bottom. The end of the barn has the typical tobacco barn ventilation boards, although I think with those wide open doors and the missing boards on the back it gets enough ventilation and those vents aren't needed now.
There was also an extra little surprise high up on the gable end.
You have to wonder if it was on the barn right from the beginning or was carved out at some other time. I'd love to know the story behind it!
