Rainy Nebraska

We started the day in Sidney, Nebraska, with a temperature of 33 degrees and a light rain. We headed out along Interstate 80 across Nebraska. The scenery along the way was very much the same with many corn fields.
As the day progressed the snow disappeared and the light rain became heavier and continued for the rest of the day. The view out the windshield changed very little.
We took a break mid-afternoon just past Kearney and stopped at the Audubon Center at Rowe Sanctuary. The Rowe Sanctuary is the place to be in March when the Sandhill Cranes congregate in huge numbers as they rest up on their northward migration. They do stop on their way south, but only stop for a quick overnight rest, similar to what we have been doing as we stop at motels at night as we travel across country.
You can check out their website by clicking here. Below is a view over the sanctuary. Unfortunately our timing was not good and the day was very wet. We contented ourselves with visiting the Audubon Center and will wait to see the cranes again when they arrive in Fairbanks on their spring migration.
Along the road to the Sanctuary I photographed some of the corn.
And the cattails.
There was also an abandoned house. We ended the rainy day in Nebraska City, almost to the Iowa border. A short drive in the morning will put us in Kansas City at my nephew's house. I am looking forward to meeting his two year old son Jack.
